The Cordoaria Nacional, located on Rua da Junqueira in Lisbon, is a historic building that marks the industrial architecture of the eighteenth century. Built by decree of the Marquis of Pombal in 1771, probably designed by architect Reinaldo Manuel dos Santos, the factory complex extended for almost 400 metres along the Tagus River.

Originally dedicated to the production of ropes, cables, sails and nautical equipment for the Portuguese Navy, the building consisted of three parallel sections with simple architectural characteristics. The workers included blind people, war veterans and prisoners, who produced articles entirely by hand with the aid of manual machines.

The site was the scene of important historical moments, such as the production of the first examples of the Portuguese national flag, publicly presented in December 1910. Over the years, it underwent various transformations, surviving fires in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Currently, most of the building hosts temporary exhibitions, including the Antiques Biennial. One section houses the National Security Office. Classified as a National Monument since 1996, the space preserves Lisbon's industrial memory and continues to be a site of cultural and historical relevance.
